HISTORY
Adrian Balcău is a young object designer from Cluj-Napoca. He has his own studio where he searches beauty, explores interesting concepts and creates fresh shapes. His objects start out most of the times as sculptural experiments of the form but often hide a layer of psychological emotional interaction between human and object.
SPECIFIC
Inspired by minimalism, geometry, symmetry, `50s-`60s design and his own experimenting with different materials, he is always searching to have a coherent visual discourse. Even though he has an artistic approach to his design practice he is very pragmatic, very rational and has a very clear view of the final product. For him, design needs to be a channel for abstract communication, a sculpture disguised as a useful object.

The AM Coffee Table is an asymmetrical composition inspired by the geometrical shapes of the 60`s. It`s made out of wood and mirror.

2015 // Muffin Top Chair
The Muffin Top Chair is the designer`s personal experiment to create a unique sitting object. It`s made out of copper pipes and sponge covered in fabric. The copper pipes are arranged in a structure that pulls together the fan shapped sponge and also works as the necessary support for the sitting area.
This chair also illustrates the krafty challenge of combining two types of materials with opposed characteristics – the rigidity of the copper pipes and the comfort of the sponge.
2015 // XXY Jewelry
XXY Jewelry is a jewelry line made by the object designer Adrian Balcău. It is a great creative outlet for the designer, a space unlimited by functionality, production efficiency or anything else. It`s only purpose is searching beauty, exploring shapes and interesting concepts.
