ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2018 // Kajet
Developed, designed and printed in Bucharest, KAJET is a journal of Eastern European encounters that seeks to move beyond a purely anecdotal understanding of the region. For Alice Stoicescu, its designer, it was great to have the freedom that comes in designing an independent publication. She got to work on some edgy typography such as slanted columns hinting at the Iron Curtain and the influence it continues to have; and empty gaps in the middle of the page. To draw up opening pages for each article using the well-made and curated artwork available.

To do a rework of Anna Grozavu’s family photo for the cover, suggesting Eastern Europe’s character: a little dusty, but oh so vibrant. And last but not least, through the project, to exchange ideas with and be granted constant support by the founders, Laura Naum and Petrică Mogoș.
Printed at Fabrik. Available at bookstores in Bucharest, London, New York, Hong-Kong Berlin, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Stockholm. Featured on It’s Nice That.

2018 // We Are Invictus
A book that lets the photographs do most of the talking. Designed in black and white, in one sans-serif typeface, with a clean clear rhythm. The small cuts that appear on the black cover and in the folio reveal the subject: the Invictus Games, a sports competition for wounded military men. In 2017, Romanian injured military men, participated for the first time in the Invictus Games. Thirty one of them were part of the Romanian team. Fifteen participated in the Toronto Competition, against other sixteen nations.

The photo book, a result of more than six months of documenting, shares a look at the sweat and tears, and moments of victory, that went into preparing for and then competing in the Invictus Games 2017.
