HISTORY
After several years of experience in curating (Bernard Tschumi / Frank Gehry, Centre Pompidou, 2014), and scenography (Moroccan Pavilion, Venice Biennale, 2014), Eliza Culea and Min Hong create novum, a structure that aims to diffuse and re-question modern and contemporary architecture through the production of cultural artifacts. The use of new digital technologies represents a priority for novum, allowing for the exploration of new aesthetics at the boundaries of virtual and physical.
ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES
2016 // MONT-1 / Zanghye Danxia, China
MONT-1 is the first result of an exploration in the world of digital conception and production focusing on topography and its representation. This furniture piece is inspired by the Zhangye Danxia mountains in China, a large scale abstract pattern that turns into a palpable texture as the CNC router drills into its plywood facade, revealing the intermittent layers of glue and wood, drawing lines that reinforce the depth of the topography. This irregular design is contained in a geometric shape, thus creating a new landscape of its own, both natural and artificial. More than just esthetic artifacts, the MONT series aims to produce objects with a real sensorial effect, transforming landscapes from a visual to a tactile experience.
