New formats in #RDW2018 program

  • New formats in #RDW2018 program
Romanian Design Week, the most important multidisciplinary event in Romania, at its sixth edition, will be held in Bucharest between 18-27th of May. The RDW program will present the current development status of local design and creative industries: architecture, urbanism, interior design, graphic design, illustration, fashion design, object design or any other initiatives and projects that use creativity as a main resource.
The festival will include a Romanian design exhibition that will present the best projects and initiatives in the last year in Romania, as well as a series of new formats meant to highlight the dialogue between different disciplines, and also having the opportunity of complementary approaches in design, as well as a series of related events that will map the space and initiatives that promote and encourage the growth of local design and creative industries.
This year's edition will be defined by the complexity of the festival's architecture and the increased relevance of the project at regional and European level.
"Starting with the 2015 edition, Romanian Design Week enjoyed an important international component within the festival and managed to gain a lot of attention and coverage in international media, which contributed to increasing the relevance of the project at regional and European level, and also improved the perception of Bucharest's creativity in general. Starting with the 2017 edition, we wanted to invest even more in this positive perception and launched the Creative Quarter project, and at this year's Romanian Design Week we are trying to talk about creativity and innovation as tools for economic and social development, and also about their potential to contribute to the overall image and development of a city. At this year's edition, we intend to make this happen through a series of new formats that have been created within the project, to engage the audience and to enhance the synergies from the Creative Quarter, this probably being the newest and most ambitious The Institute project we’ve had so far", said Andrei Borţun, CEO The Institute.
The #RDW2018 Main Exhibition
will host the best design, graphic design, fashion, architecture and interior design ideas of the last year, signed by over 150 Romanian designers, creative entities and organizations. The exhibition is the largest gallery of projects that stand out through creativity and generate change through innovation. As every year, the showcased design projects are selected by the project team, alongside a creative board, including: Adrian Soare, CUMULUS Partner Architect, Domnica Margescu, Elle Fashion Director, Maurice Munteanu, Elle Fashion Editor, Mihai Gurei, Intro Creative Director and Owner, Ovidiu Hrin, Synopsis, Stefan Ghenciulescu, Architect, Publicist and Researcher in Architecture and Urbanism, Editor-in-Chief of Zeppelin Magazine, University Associate at UAUIM. This year, the project selection was made out of a total of over 400 submitted projects.
The architecture of the exhibition will be signed, like all five editions so far, by the architect Attila Kim.
In order to develop the international component and relevance of RDW, the projects presented this year at the exhibition will also be evaluated by an international creative board, which will choose the favorite executions of the 2018 edition.
Show Off #RDW2018, inspired by UniCredit Bank
will reunite the Diploma Selected and Ubikubi Young Design Awards (UYDA) exhibitions and proposes a selection of the best graduation projects from creative and vocational universities, as well as an exhibition that will present the winners of the UYDA design contest. Show Off RDW aims to explore the future of local design, seeking and promoting young talents. The exhibitions will be held at the Universul Palace, an important cultural center on the Creative Quarter map.
Concept Store #RDW2018
aims to develop the commercial side of the festival, proposing a selection of Romanian design objects that have been noted for their feasibility and success on the market, from furniture, decorations, books, accessories and jewelry, to posters, stationery, special projects and installations. The selection of products that will be available in this Concept Store will also be made by the RDW creative board.

Satellite events #RDW2018
are reunited in a circuit of organizations and initiatives that promote, facilitate and develop design and all of its areas: 10 days of exhibitions organized by professional associations, parties, point-based gatherings, conferences and product launches.
