The 8th edition of DIPLOMA, the only festival dedicated to the new generation of Romanian artists, architects and designers, ended last week. On average, DIPLOMA had one visitor per minute during the 10 days of the festival. From 8 to 17 October the public could enjoy 92 works from 16 specialisations on display at Combinatul Fondului Plastic.
DIPLOMA 2021 counted six pavilions and a total exhibition space of 1,500 sqm where art has taken on different forms, textures and themes, as seen by the new generation of creators. Sustainability, returning to one's roots, to the countryside and family, introspection, personal or emotional development were among the most common subjects in the works of the 2021 generation. Some of them were also reflected in the activities, exhibitions or screenings of the sponsors and partners of this year's edition, as well as in the workshop dedicated to recycling and sustainable living, held by ASAP Romania.
The fashion pavilion supported by Fashion Days was one of the most popular with the public, as visitors were attracted by the creativity and versatility of the outfits.
Under the Together We Art umbrella, IQOS presented a concept exhibition in its namesake pavilion, featuring the creations of 8 multidisciplinary artists, presenting their vision of a better future. The outdoor work of PREN, a popular Romanian graphic artist and illustrator, also caught the attention of visitors.
As a reminder, DIPLOMA is a project of The Institute, with a record number of entries this year of over 500 works by artists from 9 cities.
According to an internal analysis carried out in the DIPLOMA community, on a sample of 322 graduates (from the last 4 years) of creative colleges across the country, their biggest challenge is finding their first job in the field they graduate from, with the mention that 63% of those surveyed would have liked an introduction to notions related to creative entrepreneurship, multidisciplinary skills, legal notions, marketing, respectively financial issues, branding and networking during college. 74% of creatives consider exhibitions to be essential for early career development.
