Romanian Design Week will host in Piața Amzei a special exhibition – The Most Beautiful Books, an annual cultural project dedicated to book design, to the artistic dimension of the book as an object. The project restores book design as a reference to the reader’s relationship to books. The project was initiated in 2012 as a platform for debate on book design, both for the professionals in the publishing world and the designers, the illustrators and the public, providing a framework for appreciation and an international perspective.

The central activity is the national book design contest, which ends with a travelling exhibition of the most beautiful books in Romania. The judging process has a significant professional component that consists in debate among the jurors, while interacting with a foreign specialist in book design. The pro- ject has extended its activities through conferences, workshops, activities meant to stimulate reading, professional meetings, with the books created by Romanian illustrators / designers attending exhibitions and book fairs in Bucharest, Cluj, Iași, Timișoara and Târgu Mureș, but also Frankfurt, Leipzig, London, Paris, Stockholm, etc.

The selection of books includes examples of good practice in finishing, design and layout, but especially several examples of concept - books that gather ideas, production and talent under the same covers.

The project The Most Beautiful Books is run by the Association for Culture and Performance and is financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration, with the support of several institutions and organizations in the cultural, artistic, editorial and educational field, as well as that of sponsors and the media.
