2019 // BLACK - tea set of black ceramics
Through the project ”Black” we explore the technique of a dynasty of potters from Ciorești village, Moldova, renowned for their distinctive work with black ceramics. The product itself is a tea set that explores the physical properties of black ceramics and curved wood. We borrow from the affective attitudes towards the whole work process of the craftsmen and capitalize on the techniques practiced by generations in a row. We functionally combine molded clay on the potter's wheel, or molded into matrixes with other materials such as curved wood. On one hand, we wanted to utilize the ceramics' ability to preserve the temperature for a long time, and on the other hand the thermal insulation property and flexibility of the wood. The result and the process itself, confirmed once again that contemporary design has so much to learn from crafts. It's about the candor, the rightness, and the sincerity with which folk art creates objects.
