HISTORY
Lână & Beton is the joint project of architect Maria Sgîrcea and furniture designer Alexandra Spiridon. Lână & Beton aims to test the expressiveness of different materials through common objects while exploring topics related to atmosphere, perception, space and lighting.
SPECIFIC
Starting from processes and experimentation, Lână & Beton focuses on the atypical treatment of materials and the search for the combination of means and knowledge that can lead to the creation of objects that intrigue.
2019 // GEM
JAM is a 4 piece mini collection of pendant lamps made out of natural wool felt inspired by the look and feel of 4 of the most popular berry fruits. The lamps are made using a technique of shaping natural wool that combines parametric design, numerical production and handcrafting. In addition, each lampshade is lightly scented during the shaping process with an organic specific berry essence.
The concept behind the collection stems from the search to create a lighthearted, fun and sensory play on perception. How little in terms of color, texture, and shape does one object need to remind us of another? Does adding a extra stimulation from another sense, in our case smell, give way to more possibilities in ways of abstracting the shape?
JAM is the first project from the L&B BESTIARIUM series, an outlet of creative endeavors that branches from the studio’s vision, that, in time, aims to test its flexibility, ability to tap in new markets and to create new opportunities for collaboration.
