Staged every year in May, Romanian Design Week is a 10 days festival that promotes design as a pad for cultural, social and economical growth. By promoting interesting ideas, energy and dynamism, vibrant exhibitions and extraordinary collaborations, RDW shows that Romanian design is so much more than what you can see at a first look. Events and showcases focus on product and industrial design, furniture, graphics, fashion, architecture an interior design. Besides the curated formats of the Main exhibition, the range of themes is also extended and transmitted by our partners, which host and organize connected events. Romanian Design Week sees itself as a festival for and of the public and our aim is to make design accessible to a broad-based public. 30.000 design aficionados visited, each year, our main exhibition and the galleries, design studios and collateral events that were part of the RDW program. |
MAIN EXHIBITION The main exhibition includes, every year, over 150 projects of more than 130 designers, design and architecture studios. A board of curators selects the participants of the main exhibition, gathering under the same roof the best creative work developed by Romanian designers, artists and architects. This year location will be revealed in April, so stay close for news. In 2016, the host of the Main Exhibition was Piața Amzei, a space which is the result of a contest from 2006, organized in partnership with the Romanian Architects' Order. Have a look at last years exhibitors and at their projects. |
CONNECTED EVENTS Besides the main exhibition, Romanian Design Week map includes connected events, hosted by design studios, design showrooms, creative hubs, boutique stores, art galleries, all united under the appreciation for great design. Apply here for this year program no later than 15th of March 2017. Check out all the connected events that were on RDW 2016 map and discover all the exhibition and the parties, part of the 10 days program of Romanian Design Week. |
GUEST COUNTRY The festival’s international flair is reinforced by the introduction of a guest country. Up until now, these have included Netherlands (2014) and Denmark, Finland, Island, Norway and Sweden with a common project (2015). Besides the comprehensive network that has been built up over recent years by Romanian Design Week, creating multiple synergies, the great advantage for guest country primarily derives from media presence and publicity (local and international). In addition we invite international journalists and guide them through the festival, sometimes in individually planned tours. 2017 guest country soon to be announced, so stay close for news. |
RDW ARCHIVE The festival began as a private initiative devloped by THE INSTITUTE, but from the very start it has been sustained by the generous support of our esteemed partners. We are pleased to be working together with institutions and enterprises whose approaches we identify with and value. We particularly wish to thank our main sponsors, but also all of the other institutional partners and promoters, which came along the way to sustain us, for their loyalty and appreciation through the years.
