ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCE
2017 // THREADS OF TRADITION @ VIENNA DESIGN WEEK // POWERED BY NATURE COLLECTION
2016 // Romania – Powered by nature
Similar to a research laboratory, OLAH GYARFAS subjects to a process of separation and fusion the fabrics and colors. His pieces become true objects of observation: the details are augmented, the cuts are asymmetrical and the extracted textures are transformed into iconic patterns. The color range is restricted in order to blend naturally with the new interpretation of the fabrics. The collection thus acquires a sculptural and austere cut in a minimalist chromatic, in accordance with the simplicity and the naturalness that became the distinct signature of PATZAIKIN.
2015 // Plug To Nature
Continuing his research in the traditional space of the Danube Delta, the designer OLAH GYARFAS extracts themes, textures and local colors in order to translate them into limited series of decorative objects and utility tableware. The geometric silhouettes, the blue Lipovan and the local graphic motifs partially covered by enamel, characterize the objects. The collection thus acquires a sculptural and austere cut in a minimalist chromatic, in accordance with the simplicity and the naturalness that became the distinct signature of PATZAIKIN.
Since its official launch in November 2011, PATZAIKIN was recognized by its avant-gardist, unique and innovative profile, whose experimental accents are the result of a balanced discourse that aims to reconsider and expand the role of crafts traditions within the local design practices. What makes unique the PATZAIKIN design is its local inspiration, grounded in the fishermen traditions from the Danube Delta, a tribute played to the world-acclaimed canoeist Ivan Patzaichin.
The designer OLAH GYARFAS is the creative head behind the PATZAIKIN brand. Educated in Timișoara and Budapest, his collections are marked by the nonchalant experimentation with various materials and textures, with almost imperceptible details of design, the sculptural and refined cut of his signature.
