HISTORY
sandwich SHOP is an art & design project developed on the idea of recycling and re-evaluating objects and ideas that might normally be overlooked.
SPECIFIC
SwSh is selling and displaying mainly merchandise which was built, generated and created in relation with the history of Combinatul Fondului Plastic (CFP) from Bucharest. CFP is currently a complex of workshops, artists' studios, and art spaces, like sandwich, an organization that values its own constructive limits.
ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES
2017 // Silkscreens: S | Vegetal | Coat of Arms
Somewhere along their journey from a dusty storage to the waste bin, sandwich SHOP has recovered these silkscreen meshes. They had been forgotten for ages amidst old crayons, pigments and pasteboards in Combinatul Fondului Plastic of Bucharest and are, of course, a bit out of shape. They are unable to date them precisely, but judging by the motifs that appear on them, by the design and technique, the screens were made in the Communist era, probably to be used for banners, curtains and flags.
Although they are no longer in their best condition, they still have some life in them, a story to tell, and, most of all, are a good example of pre – Illustrator Romanian graphic design. Each design is printed in limited edition. As a result of the precarious condition of the screens, each print may differ from the others in the same edition.
