ROMANIAN DESIGN WEEK APPEARANCES

2019 // Mbq loom
"The loom" is the winning proposal of the design competition for Mesteshukar Boutique. The project started with a glimpse of memory:
"I can feel so clearly passing my fingers through the vertical twigs of the basket, I remember some of them being soft and flexible, and others breaking, I can feel the flour on her hands and the firm movements through the bread dough. I remember with my hands. […]
These memories don't seem to be stocked in my brain, but moreover in my fingers, arms. They are triggered by touch. The body remembers.
To recollect the experience of a certain crafts means remembering the process. The body reacts when it sees the tools or the materials.
A place that aims to keep the crafts alive should be able to trigger memories, to have the tools and the materials available, to invite you to take a seat and let your fingers move along with them. To be a workshop, more than a shop.
To be a tactile house of past and future memories."
Project team: Anca Cioarec, Brîndușa Tudor, Teodora Capră-Robescu și Ștefan Nechita.

2019 // The Drawers
A playful process around a furniture detail - the precious container of the drawer. A usually hidden part is emphasised through repositions, colours and patterns.

2019 // red dots/a table set / Stardust architects * Atelier Tron * Studio mud
Red dots / a table set is the result of the encounter of three studios focused on imagining and creating spaces and objects. The dots, perfectly represented on paper, become a graphic symbol and are translated into embroidery on cotton and ceramic pigment on porcelain, in the shape of an architectural grid.
The grid changed in relation with the manual working process. Therefore a lot of tests were made to obtain coherence in the layering of the embroidered surfaces. The ceramic objects follow the preset order and stand naturally on the achieved grid.

2018 // Topophilia
Topophilia is the result of the architecture competition organized by The Architects’ Order of Romania (OAR) for the Romanian stand at the International Union of Architects Congress that took place in September 2017 in Seoul.

The pavilion responds to the general theme of the congress, Soul of City, proposing an immersive experience in a place where one might sense the soul of Bucharest: the Văcărești Nature Park. Starting from the dialogue between Marco Polo and Kubilai Han in the invisible cities described by Italo Calvino, the place is revealed through sounds, scents, objects and plants.

2016 // Secret Garden

Secret garden is a herbarium mirror that creates the frame for a different meeting with the self.
Escaping a direct reflection, it prolongs the mirroring moment through a private display of one’s own preserved plants, magnified in the reflecting covers. Reversing a common hierarchy, it extends the presence of nature, revealing an usually hidden herbarium collection and it places oneself through his own tended garden.

Secret garden is designed by Zwei and Stardust architects*. The object was produced with the support of Saint-Gobain Glass Romania, Vertigo Metal Design and Vasile Stoica from Nod makerspace.

2016 // Canvas
Moreover a process than a final object, Canvas is questioning the way materia can embody an experience. It reveals the experiment of blending an industrially produced material with the free play of color. Therefore, using different layers of cement manually mixed with different quantities of pigment, it aims to bring this type of material closer to human scale.

The gradient of color alters the mass of the table, generating progressive cavities waiting for utility proposals. Part of a study of the geometry of the containers and the relation between the modules, the new series of progressive cavities emphasizes the tactile and delicate qualities of pre-cast concrete.

2016 // The scene behind the scene
Any building that is specialized in the production of a form of spectacle, is hiding behind the publicly accessible spaces a fascinating world. The project presents a scenario of this microcosm of the building, the management area of an institution for the production of spectacle.
Interpreting elements such as wood panelling, coffered ceiling and wooden frames, the space is configured in a dramatic note with a dynamic crescendo that end with the conference room, where an intense shade of red climbs on the floor, on chairs and then on the round table.

2016 // An apartment. După Iniște
The apartment in După Iniște is trying to communicate with the context. It is an interior that borrows the verticality, the rhythm, the height and the sharp air of a forest. Of the tall pine trees, of the mountain. As a sensation and an experience of dwelling, it is closer to breath, to the fresh air in the morning, to the dew and the raindrops. It is a tall and rhythmic space, where the shapes are clear, in a defined geometry. Contrasting textures come together, joining each other and revealing different cutouts.
The colors are dense, saturated, placed among different wood species.
