BEGINNINGS I studied object and industrial design at Bucharest University of Arts and at the University of Wolverhampton,UK . In 2010 I represented the young Romanian designers at Milan Design Week, as a part of Elle Decoration International Design Awards. My products were selected by Giulio Cappellini, one of the greatest contemporary Italian designers. I have exhibited in London ( 2008), at the annual exhibition New Designers, where I was pre-selected among 50 designers, out of a total of 4.000 participants. I have exhibited in Kortrijk (Interieur '08 ), Graz (2012-2013), Brussels and, of course, Bucharest. I founded my brand "by Anca Fetcu" in 2010, I gave up any other job and I took the path of entrepreneurship. I am one of the founders of BUCHAREST DESIGN CENTER - Romanian design platform for product promotion. CAREER I can say that my first job was to work with my father, at his tuning shop in fiberglass. I learned casting technology in fiberglass, I learned how to deal with carbona and kevlar. In the second year of college I worked as junior Art Director, then I was 'apprentice' at Atelier RD, where I learned more about woodworking and design processes. After stuyding in England, I worked at Reading Form, a product design studio part of La Strada. Later I returned to Art Direction. All these jobs helped me to complete the list of abilities and to understand design from many angles . BRAND/BUSINESS When I started my brand, back in 2010, I enjoyed very much to work without being constrained by briefs, preconceived ideas or complicated ways of marketing. I've released my creative spark and started to develop and improve my concepts. Hence the brand name "by Anca Fetcu". The extreme simplicity of the product and the pragmatic thinking outlined my personal style. TODAY In parallel with the development of my own creations, I'm working with a Swiss company for developing design products in mass series. Last year I had a very nice collaboration with Intel, we created five convertible design products, each one inspired by one convertible Ultrabook model, inspired by Intel. My creations are addressed to a public which is looking for a story, for people that understand the positive impact of product design in his own life. TOMORROW As a product designer, I want to create mass products available to a wider audience, to reach a larger number of people. The passion for cars, inherited from my father, brings me very close to custom design for cars. A project that I prepare with care and attention is a tuning shop, where the design and the production experience will be defining. DESIGN MANIFESTO RDW was very expected. Overlapping all creative industries in one large scale event that lasted about 10 days was a first in Romania, we all greet that! In terms of work in design, I think it requires a lot of patience, desire for knowledge, a close relation between workshops, factories and production technology, continuous improvement of their mechanisms for better understanding the consumer psychology.
